Chicago Comparative Imagery

Satellite data show that Chicago has seen a 43 percent decrease in nitrogen dioxide between the 2005-2007 and 2009-2011 periods. Nitrogen dioxide is a key ingredient in forming ozone, which is consistently highest above lake Michigan on hot summer days when air tends to flow northward over the lake from the Chicago area.
